  • Avoid Hard Foods: Skip whole hard candies, popcorn kernels, ice cubes, and unsliced crunchy fruits and veggies.
  • Slice Before Eating: Cut hard fruits and vegetables, like apples and carrots, into small pieces.
  • Steer Clear of Sticky Foods: Avoid gum, taffy, jerky, and caramel.
  • Prepare Foods on the Bone: Remove meat from bones and corn from the cob before eating.
  • Don’t Chew On Non-food Items: Avoid chewing pens, pencils, or fingernails.
  • Limit Sugary Intake: Reduce consumption of milk, soda, breath mints, iced tea, jam, jelly, sugary cereals, and fruit juice.
